Housing Justice is Racial Justice

When:  Jun 13, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 01:30 PM (ET)

Race Forward, the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE), and Habitat for Humanity are excited to host an interactive event to empower housing justice supporters with case-making narrative and communication tools.

Register here for this virtual session on June 13th, 9:00-10:30 AM PST/10:00-11:30 AM MT/11:00-12:30 CT/12-1:30 ET.

Community organizers, government racial equity practitioners, and nonprofit housing agencies are using research-informed housing narratives and communications tools to galvanize housing supporters. They are replacing dominant negative narratives with new positive narratives to shift the public debate.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Model making the case for solving the housing crisis by identifying the root causes and narratives of anti-Blackness and systemic racism that create the racial wealth gap.

  • Use Race Forward’s narrative and communications tools to tell stories and craft messages that bring your colleagues and neighbors into the movement for housing justice.

Hosts: Race Forward’s Housing and Land Justice Initiative, GARE’s Housing, Land, and Development Network, and Habitat for Humanity’s Advancing Black Homeownership Initiative

Facilitators:

  • Dr. Jane Mantey, Race Forward Director of Narrative and Cultural Strategy

  • Patricia Abbate, Habitat for Humanity, Equity Focused Programs Manager

  • Tawkiyah Jordan, Habitat for Humanity, Vice President, Housing and Community Strategy

  • Ryan Curren, Race Forward Director of Housing, Land, and Development
